CatalunyaCaixa is the trade name of Catalunya Banc SA, a financial institution that owns the banking business of Caja de Ahorros de Catalunya, Tarragona i Manresa, a savings bank operating under the same brand, that was the product of the merger of Caixa Catalunya, Caixa Tarragona and Caixa Manresa.

In 2011, in the process of restructuring the financial system in Spain, Catalunya Caixa transferred its financial business, customer base and network of offices to Catalunya Banc SA.
To minimize the business impact of the change for customers, Catalunya Banc decided to continue using for its its branch network and customer communications the brand “CatalunyaCaixa”. The new savings bank has 1212 branches and over 4 million customers.

The December 17, 2012, FROB 100% nationalized Catalunya Banc, so the Caja de Ahorros de Catalunya, Tarragona i Manresa lost control of its bank, and therefore, its only source of income with which maintain social work.
The December 28, 2012, in order to maintain social work, the savings bank was transformed into a special foundation under the protectorate of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Fundació Catalunya, La Pedrera, located in the Casa Mila.
